About .com
.com is a generic top-level domain (gTLD). ICANN lists VeriSign, Inc. as its registry operator. According to Verisign, it also operates .net, .name and the country-code extension .cc. According to Verisign, an individual, business or organization can register a domain name through a registrar for one to 10 years.
ICANN decided to sign Amendment 3 to the .com agreement with Verisign; under the amended terms the .com wholesale price may rise by up to 7% a year in the final four years of each six-year period.
Scope: The cap on the .com registry wholesale price (not registrars’ retail prices).
According to an ICANN decision paper, ICANN’s President and CEO decided to execute Amendment 3 to the .com registry agreement with Verisign.[1]
The paper says the amended Cooperative Agreement lets Verisign raise prices for new registrations and renewals by up to seven percent a year in the final four years of each six-year period, the first of which began on 2018-10-26.[1]
